Excerpt from ‘Nabelichting’, Chapter 23, Nothing is Real

A photographic portrait of a person, made a second before or after another portrait of the same person, but in a slightly different light or from a slightly different angle, can give us the impression we are dealing with someone else. Someone with a different personality, in a different state of mind. In this way photographers are manipulating reality, just by picking up a camera.
